While driving, the word "tipping point" suddenly came on the car radio. I didn't know what it meant, so I wondered, and the radio host explained it to me.
"TIP means to tip, and refers to a turning point where things change dramatically when certain conditions are exceeded. It refers to the phenomenon in which an idea, product, or message spreads like a virus, spreading rapidly."
Digging deeper into this word that caught my attention, I discovered that "Tipping Point" is a phrase that became popular in the 1970s. Journalist Malcolm Gladwell explains in his book that it referred to the movement of white people living in American regional cities to the suburbs in preparation for the influx of other races. The word, which once referred to a local social phenomenon, has come to be used in a variety of fields.
