03. Being in a band helped me open up a little more about my introverted self.
My brother and his cousin, who was six years older than me, often played together, and before long I started joining in. I got hooked on pinball and billiards, and in the latter I became the Kyushu champion in the second tournament I entered.
My cousin's family ran a Chinese restaurant and a disco called "Mugen." They were much wealthier than us, but perhaps because they were lonely, we often ate the curry my grandmother made at home. He was like Shoken from "Angel with a Scar," so I felt bad about that (laughs). Maybe because he knew I had burns and my parents were fighting, he was very concerned about me. He was the one who told me, "If you go to Tokyo, go to Harajuku."
