Whether it's fashion, music, or sports, there is a style that only each person can express in any genre. "Style is Everything." That's right, someone once said that style is everything. "Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who, as the name suggests, have style. Updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the 12th installment traces the life of Shimazu Yoshiyuki, who works as a stylist and creative director.

01. Grew up in the castle town of Kumamoto.

I was born on March 17th, 1959, which means I was in the 1958 school year. I grew up in the city, very close to Kumamoto City's downtown. There were movie theaters called "Denkikan" (now Denkikan) and "Shinsekai," and there were many more glamorous, glamorous, and adult-themed drinking establishments than there are now. It was a town for people who lived nearby rather than people who came for work. The area near "Shower Street," south of Shimo-dori, was formerly a red-light district, and I often saw women standing there, and I have memories of being teased sometimes (laughs).

I lived with my parents, older brother, older sister, and maternal grandmother. My older brother was seven years older than me, and my older sister was two years older than me, so they had a big influence on me. My father was born in Kyoto and grew up in Hikone, and was adopted into the Shimazu family. When I was about five or six, my father's mother, who was my grandmother to me, also came to live with us. My maternal grandmother was already living with us, so we ended up having two grandmothers in the house. That's why I was very much a grandma's boy. People at school thought it was strange, though...

Around the middle of elementary school, my parents' relationship started to deteriorate, and they divorced around my first year of junior high school. This contributed to me becoming an introverted child who didn't like to interact with others. I would purposely act silly so that people wouldn't know what I was thinking. Perhaps because of that family environment, my older sister was very responsible, and I remember very well that I was saved by having my grandmother there.
