"Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who literally have style, updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In the 15th installment, we will be presenting the life story of Tetsuya Okada, CEO of Globe Specs, over 14 installments.

12. Our efforts to build a network with overseas companies, which had been going well, have come to a halt.

When I thought about my future path, I remembered that at Kimpo-do I had been aware of Iwaki as a rival, so I decided to knock on Iwaki's door again. During the interview I said, "I was doing this with the intention of destroying your company" (laughs), but I was hired that same day.

I worked in sales for about a year, then became the head of the president's office. The first thing the president asked me to do was a pair of Danish glasses called LINDBERG. I found out that they were made by an architect directly descended from Arne Jacobsen, so I went to Copenhagen to hear more about them, and in 1992 I entered them in the Good Design Awards, where they won the grand prize. It was at this awards ceremony that I was able to come into contact with people in the media. One of those people was Jun Yamaguchi (a writer, now deceased), who helped Globe Specs become known.
