11. Initiatives and innovations at New York stores.
About a year after I'd been working in New York, the store decided to move from Fifth Avenue to Park Avenue. Since local laws prohibited leaving the previous location empty after the move, I was put in charge of the old store for the next 10 months until it closed.
The old store's frontage was narrow, so we beefed up the window display to attract passersby's attention. By looking at where there were fingerprints on the window, we could see which items people were interested in. At the time, the old store sold frames and sunglasses. This gave us a real sense of the need for glasses to satisfy fashion and other desires, which was a great benefit.
