04. I was shocked by the way Italian shoes are designed.
The week after I graduated from high school, I bought a plane ticket and went to Florence, Italy. The reason was that someone had told me to visit him. He was a Japanese publisher of a shoe industry magazine, and he had a home in Florence. I negotiated with him, saying, "I'll keep the room clean while you're away, so please let me live there," and I lived there for about three months.
