01. Born and raised in Asakusa, a neighborhood of performing arts and small factories.
When I was a child in Asakusa, if you entered Nakamise and went past the Kannon statue and got to the back half of the town was the entertainment district, and the other half was leather and shoe stores, the so-called small factory area. Many of my friends' houses were brothels. The performing arts world and the shoe factory sounds, like in Okabayashi Nobuyasu's "Tulip Appliqué," were next to each other, and our house was no exception.
