12. An unexpected opportunity to publish and produce a photo exhibition.
In 1998, I inherited a word processor from my sister and started writing and saving it. I gave a copy of it to my friend Anju (photographer), and Toshihiko Yahagi (author) said, "We read what you wrote at Anju's office and it's interesting, so please send it to the editor at Bunshun." I mailed it off and didn't hear anything for about a year, but one day I received a very polite letter, and that's how I ended up publishing "Take Courage and Wear It" (2001).
