Whether it's fashion, music, or sports, there is a style that only each person can express in any genre. "Style is Everything." That's right, someone once said that style is everything. "Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who, as the name suggests, have style, and is updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In this 16th installment, we will consider what it means to live with art through the life of Mick Itaya, a visual artist who has worked on the original logo for Uniqlo and whose cassette magazine "TRA" is permanently preserved at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
02. Even as a child, he has clear likes and dislikes.
There was a joinery shop next door to our house, and I often found it fascinating to watch them making window frames and shoji screens. I also got leftover pieces of wood from there and tried making something with them, so perhaps this kind of environment was important.
Apparently my parents decided to raise me to be a refined child. In fact, I only found out about this after my parents had passed away. My sister told me that they had said that. Also, my father had been unable to achieve his own dreams because of the war, so he had a strong desire for his children to do what they loved. I think these ways of thinking also influenced the path I took later on.
