Backstage Gifts VOL.4 Toshiya Sano (Music Producer)
Toshiya Sano
Born in Shizuoka, graduated from Meiji University. A part-time job at Magazine House led to him joining Polydor Records (now Universal Music). After working as an assistant director, he was transferred to Osaka and became a radio promoter. He engineered hits for artists such as Spitz, The Cardigans, and Sheryl Crow. He was called back as recording director and worked on Fishmans after they moved, as well as newcomers Masayoshi Yamazaki, THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT, Char, and Kiyoshiro Imawano. He moved to Space Shower Music and started the music publishing department. He produced ZIGGY's comeback and T-Jiro's, among others. He founded Left Brain Co., Ltd. and produced archives for artists such as Fishmans and Kiyoshiro Imawano, as well as newcomers.
I grew up in Shizuoka, so Shunkado's Unagi Pie has been a familiar treat since I was a child. However, I only started using it as a gift about 10 years ago. When I was with Space Shower Music, my artists, such as ZIGGY and T-Jiro's, started appearing more and more on music specials on TV, and I was wondering what to give them as gifts. This coincided with the time when I was visiting my parents' house more often due to family circumstances.
Gifts are given to producers and directors when greeting them before recording. After giving it, it is placed in the gift corner with a tag saying "From XXX (artist name)," so you can't give anything too embarrassing. In that respect, you can give Shunkado's Unagi Pie with confidence.
