Whether it's fashion, music, or sports, there is a style that only each person can show in any genre. "Style is Everything." That's right, someone said that style is everything. "Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who literally have style. Updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the second installment traces the life story of Hiroyuki Yagisawa, who continues to work at the famous Harajuku store "Cassidy."
01. When I was a child, I was fascinated by picture books and foreign TV dramas.
When I was born, I moved around between Hamacho and Kakigaracho in Nihonbashi, and then moved to Nikko in Tochigi when I was in elementary school. Just being born in Tokyo makes me a country bumpkin (laughs). I was born in May 1956.
I think I was a child with no particular characteristics. Other than playing menko and marbles with my friends, I watched TV all the time. I also liked a picture book called "Kinder Book" and read it all the time like a bible. I couldn't buy new issues, so I would read the same ones over and over again, even copying them. I've loved drawing ever since, and when I started school, I would draw pictures during calligraphy class and get scolded by my teacher (laughs).
My favorite TV show was "Lassie." "The Beasts of the Beast" was also interesting. A little later, I watched "Combat." I was always fascinated by foreign TV shows. It was "Peyton Place" that made me start to pay attention to the clothes in foreign TV shows. I don't remember the story at all, but I was vaguely impressed by the behavior and style of the characters. In the puppet animation "Thunderbirds," not only the machines and mecha that appeared, but also the clothes worn by the puppets were cool. When I saw Wes Anderson's work using puppet animation, "Thunderbirds" came back to my memory.
