Whether it's fashion, music, or sports, there is a style that only each person can express in any genre. "Style is Everything." That's right, someone once said that style is everything. "Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who, as the name suggests, have style. Updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the 12th installment traces the life of Shimazu Yoshiyuki, who works as a stylist and creative director.

09. Planning my next project while working at Do! Family.

At first, I worked in product management at Do! Family, but before long, I got involved in a variety of things. One day, I was wearing a pair of peg-top jeans from CLOSED, which have a tartan pattern when you roll up the cuffs, and they asked me to lend them to them as a sample. The products I made based on that were huge sellers, contributing to the company's overall sales (laughs). I also worked in the store on my own initiative and did a variety of other things, and it seems the president liked what I was doing and had high hopes for me.

One day, the company president approached me and asked if I would like to take on the role of landlord of an apartment that he was renting as a warehouse and was looking for a caretaker. I would be living in a room of about 4 tatami mats, but the idea of no rent was appealing, so I accepted. I even received bonuses from time to time, which allowed me to save money. At the time, I was working at Do! Family, working as a live-in caretaker, and also working a part-time job at night. All the while, I was planning my next project: going to Europe. Every day, I would look at a globe and make plans.

At that time, I became obsessed with a shop in Harajuku called Paper Moon, which sold 1950s vintage items. It was a lovely store, with items neatly arranged on top of Louis Vuitton trunks. It was also here that I first saw Giorgio Armani. The owners were very kind to me.
