How to survive uncertain times.
In the mid-90s, a late-night TV show attracted attention for its plot. The story was about an unknown comedy duo who hitchhiked across the Eurasian continent with 100,000 yen as their starting point. Their journey began in Hong Kong, and viewers were glued to the screen as they faced a series of unexpected situations in a foreign country, including sleeping rough, getting pickpocketed, and working part-time jobs to earn money for the trip. After overcoming various hardships along the way, the duo became national heroes when they finally reached their destination in London.
This would have been the happy ending, but it was later discovered that they had traveled by plane. The incident generated so much public interest that the media fanned the flames and created a huge uproar.
The television project is an extreme example, but unexpected things happen when traveling, big and small.
