Whether it's fashion, music, or sports, there is a style that only each person can have in any genre. "Style is Everything." That's right, someone said that style is everything. "Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who literally have style. Updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the fifth installment traces the life story of Shinichi Nakasone, the owner of the Harajuku import shop "Labrador Retriever."
12. Labrador Retriever: Smooth sailing.
"Labrador Retriever" opened in September 1988. I think most people would make a budget and do other things when they start a store, but I simply thought, "I can sell 100,000 yen a day." I thought I could make it if I sold that much. In the first month, sales were a little higher than expected, but by December, sales had exceeded 10 million yen. With the same feeling as finding an amazing vintage one-of-a-kind item, I thought, "This is great," and bought items that had not yet been imported to Japan in the United States, and they became hits one after another. Looking back, the fact that I could not rely on the suppliers from my "Backdrop" days to procure products was actually helpful in establishing the individuality of the store.
