02. I was thrilled by "Dr. No."

When I was in elementary school and enjoyed watching TV shows like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and Lupin III, I found out that the first film in the James Bond series, 007: The Killer Number (1962), was being re-released under the Japanese title Dr. No. For some reason, it clicked with me, and my mother said, "Maybe I should see this," and took me to see it. From the moment the film started, I was blown away by how cool it was, and how all my favorite TV shows were based on it. So I got hooked and went around to classic movie theaters to see the rest of the films in order. After watching Dr. No, I also read the original Ian Fleming book, which was translated by Hayakawa, and submitted a book report that said, "In terms of the sex, snobbism, and sadism that the author wanted to portray..." and my parents called me to school (laughs). I didn't really understand the content, so I just skimmed over the surface, using katakana to make it sound cool, but Seisen is a Catholic school, after all.
