Whether it's fashion, music, or sports, there is a style that only each person can express in any genre. "Style is Everything." That's right, someone once said that style is everything. "Style Resume" is a series of interviews with adults who, as the name suggests, have style. Updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, in the 14th installment, we hear from Wakatsuki Yoshio, a director who continues to be active in fields around the world, about his behind-the-scenes aesthetic.
08. I want to do something even more edgy!
At the time, many of Touch's clients were on a slightly different trajectory from the so-called designer brands, but we were younger and more edgy. Shows by brands like MEN'S BIGI, NICOLE, and STUDIO V looked cooler. The music was also cutting edge and stimulating.
One day, an external lighting staff member asked me, "We're looking for someone at Shikata-san's company. Would you like to come, Yoshio?" It turned out that this person had worked for both Ebashi-san and Shikata-san. So I volunteered, saying, "I want to go!" and that's how I ended up working for Shikata-san's "Sale International."
I mentioned the Tokiwa Fashion Rally in Oita before, but many of the shows I saw and thought were cool when I was a student were directed by Shikata-san. That's why I was happy to transfer.
I believe the last job I did for Ebashi-san was Yamamoto Kansai's "Kansai Genki Shugi" (1984). It was an event held in a special tent at Korakuen Stadium (now Tokyo Dome), and Yamaguchi Sayoko and Baisho Mitsuko appeared. The event before that, "Daikan Gekisai Kansai Energy Relation" (1983, the first and last fashion event to be held at Kuramae Kokugikan), was also tough. I didn't have enough time to go home. In the end, I ended up staying up for three nights straight.
